Flying Into the Future
Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) play a critical role in saving lives, but operating safely and efficiently—especially in unpredictable weather—requires accurate, real-time information. The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has recognized this and is introducing new operational regulations effective May 2026 that will change how HEMS operators plan and execute flights.
What’s Changing?
From May 2026, HEMS operators will be required to have reliable, real-time access to meteorological data, particularly for night flights and adverse weather. The rules require fixed-location cameras at known coordinates, with verified altitude and orientation. These devices must be maintained to strict standards to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Meeting—and Exceeding—the Standard
Panomax has been working closely with leading HEMS operators for years, and we’ve already developed a proven solution that not only meets the new requirements but goes further to improve flight operations:
- High-resolution day and night cameras delivering live visual data in real time
- Integrated meteorological overlays showing wind, temperature, humidity, and other key data
- Accurate geolocation, altitude, and camera orientation for full compliance
- Secure, EU-based data storage and GDPR-compliant processing
- Remote maintenance and monitoring to ensure uptime and reliability
These systems are already deployed with operators such as ÖAMTC in Austria, The largest HEMS operators in Germany, and Luxembourg Air Rescue. Supporting mission planning, improving safety margins, and helping pilots make better decisions in all weather conditions.
More Than Compliance—Better Operations
With Panomax, compliance is just the beginning. Operators benefit from improved situational awareness, reduced weather-related cancellations, and a valuable historical image archive for operational review and training.
